A little information about camping and other things in and around Antibes and Juan les Pins which are both joined at the hip on the Cote d'Azur, southern France
When we mention Antibes we also mention Juan les Pins in the same breath as they are joined through expansion and are situated on the French Riviera or Cote d'Azur whichever you please, in the south of France and they both face the Mediterranean Sea. We have a link to a map of the area which also gives far more info about Antibes than we can hope to print here.
If both these towns had their rights then Antibes is the bigger and is slightly to the north of Juan on the Nice side, whereas Juan les Pins lies in the more sheltered Golfe Juan nearer to Cannes. The whole area has been a haven for both British and French visitors for many, many years, though there is no way that you can actually camp in either town as all the sites are located on the outskirts of both.
As we have mentioned on many of our pages when giving directions; getting there is easy and if you can follow the directions below then you will have no need to consult a map from Calais area until you nearly reach your destination, and even then you should have been supplied with directions for the last few KM. Most of your journey will be on the autoroutes for which you will unfortunately have to pay to use, but outside the very high season they are very much underused and a delight to drive on.
From Calais you take the A26 and head for Reims, Troyes and Dijon which is famous for mustard. Then follow the signs for macon and Lyon where you have a choice of route to take you to the Cote d'Azur, though we recommend the slightly longer one because it is swifter. So, from Lyon you go next to Valance and then to Orange, past Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, and carry on to St Raphael, Cannes and your destination of either Juan les Pins or Antibes.
The other route from Lyon is to follow signs for Bourgoin-Jallieu, la Mure, Gap, Castellene, Grasse, Cannes and from there to your camping site. It is a shorter and more scenic route for sure, but hilly and slower than the other. Either way, you should have covered the thick end of 700 miles and more from Calais and we sincerely hope you had a night's rest somewhere en route.
When you are settled in to your camping site in either Antibes or Juan les Pins you can begin to explore the region, probably a visit to Cannes and/or Nice just up the road, or a day out in the Principality of Monaco which is nearer to the Italian border and drive round the world famous race track which is really the main road in this little place on a hillside.
