A little about Arzano and the surrounding area, how to get there and the resources and facilities in the area for good camping holidays
Arzano is located roughly 10 to 12 miles north of Lorient on the south coast of Brittany, and is quite close to some other camping areas of note: Quiberon, Benodet, Concarneau, Carnac and Beg Meil, all of which we have individual pages about in this little camping guide of ours.
Unlike nearly all of the other sites we mention on these pages, Arzano is not quite on the coast, though the southern Brittany coast and its beaches are less than a dozen miles away - just a hop, skip and a jump if you are on a self drive holiday.
To make up for the fact that it is inland, Arzano is virtually on the river Elle where you can go kayacking or canoeing
Getting there is a doddle, but there again, I always say that. To save on repetition please have a look at our Beg Meil page and instead of heading for Quimper/Concarneau at the end of your journey you simply peel off beforehand. It's difficult to get lost in that neck of the woods.
Other than self drive holidays, fly drive is a convenient option for Brittany with regional airports at Brest, Dinard, Rennes and Nantes, but there are ferries that go from Portsmouth, Poole and Plymouth to the most appropriate ports for this resort: Caen, Cherbourg, St Malo and Roscoff.
As we are sure you won't want to be lazing by the pool or on the beach all your holiday (!) you could have a look at some other places of interest, starting with the charming picturesque village of Pont Aven where there is an artist colony and is well worth the short drive from the your campsite.
The local market town of Quimperle is a very few minutes away by car and there you will find an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars - more than enough for anyone!
Now Carnac is also very near, very roughly 15 miles to the south of Arzano, and is well worth a visit if only to see the hundreds, perhaps thousands of standing stones or Megaliths which were placed there by God knows who some thousands of years ago. Not even the experts in this kind of thing know exactly who put them there or why, but it was possibly for some religious purpose.
Whilst you are in the Carnac area you may as well go the whole hog and press on to Quiberon which is joined to the mainland by a causeway. Go right to the end of the island and you will find the charming little town of Quiberon. There are some lovely but very rocky, scenic beaches just there and the town itself is worth the visit. The rest of the island? Not worth the effort exploring (in our opinion).
Or, the ocean beaches at the sweet little port of Guidel Plage are only 15 miles from the campsite. Travelling a little further afield you may wish to visit the 13th century Cathedral St Pierre at the historic walled town of Vannes.
Do all the above and your camping or mobile home holiday in Arzano will be a really fun packed, action packed couple of weeks.
