Places to Visit:

Le Palais de I’lle
Reached from the main part of Annecy by a bridge and surrounded by water on three sides, Le Palais de I’lle has a grand and beautiful gothic façade that belies its past as a prison. Today it houses a museum which is very much worth visiting.

Grenoble Bastille
Set high above the city on a mountaintop, the Bastille was once an important line of defence on the alpine frontier. Today it is served by the oldest cable car in France, enabling visitors to enjoy magnificent views of the city and the Alps.

Grotte et Cascade de Seythenex
Offering a 40 minute guided tour of underground galleries and passages, as well as a magnificent 45m high waterfall, Seythenex is one of the most popular attractions in the French Alps.

If you are driving to the Alps then we suggest a Dover - Calais crossing either by ferry or Eurotunnel. From there it is about 520 (ish) miles to lake Annecy. Get on the A26 autoroute and head for St Omer where the famous lager is made, Bethune, Arras (which pass nearby) St Quentin, Reims and Troyes. The road bypasses Troyes and you pick up the A5, then A31 signed for Dijon. From Dijon you take the A31 to Macon where you pick up the A40 to Bourg-en-Bresse, Nantua and finally to Annecy.
