Should it be camping luxury or Luxury camping?
Equipment for camping in luxury holidays is not easily transported from place to place - and by that we mean that Yurts, Tipis etc are big and heavy and not the sort of thing you can pack into the car for a fortnight in France or wherever. So you simply hire it at your chosen campsite.
Now that may sound easy, and indeed it is comparatively so in the UK, but the rest of Europe including France are a way behind us in the luxury camping stakes - ironic really when you think of France as being the home of what we have come to accept as 4 or 5 star camping sites, where camping breaks and holidays have been a way of life for decades.
But the French are catching up in this market, or rather, some enterprising Brits are setting up their businesses in France and offering Yurt and Tipi camping holidays, and good luck to you guys! Anyone who invests in a European holiday business in a recession is either certifiable or they have the true British spirit of guts and determination. We prefer to believe the latter and if we can help them to achive some bookings through this page then so much the better.
Yurts and Tipis are not the only luxury accommodation on offer in France though. Mobile home holidays are classed as camping holidays, and there is a plethora of mobile homes all over France which are fitted out to the highest specification. These are so good they could be lived in year round!
So what can you expect when the advert says "luxury camping holidays"? Well at present in France it is mainly Yurts or mobile homes that are on offer, and very briefly, the luxury in a mobile home is chiefly in the specification: they all have showers/toilets and kitchens as standard, but extra fittings make them more attractive. Quite frankly much of it is down to how much space there is in the mobile. Separate kitchens and large diners are a must for any mobile home to be called luxurious, but they are often equipped with gadgets which the modern family take for granted at home: 220/240 volt electrics is a must for Brits on holiday, hair driers, electric tin openers, coffee makers and most definitely teapots, kettles and decent sized cups are essential, though these will only be in the inventory if the holiday company is British as kettles, teapots and "proper" cups are a rarity with French owned holiday companies.
Yurts: Well Yurts are the things which actually set off the luxury camping market, and if you have never yet had a Yurt camping holiday then you are missing out on quite an experience. They are tents with a huge difference, and they are based very closely on the original Mongolian Yurts which date back many hundreds of years, and in which the Mongols spent their summers and the dreadfully cold winters in relative warmth and comfort. There are different sizes of Yurts so when you book you need to ask for the most suitable size for your party. For holiday purposes thay are certainly the bees knees and this is a brief list of what they offer the holidaymaker.
The Yurt itself is made from a thick layer of felt which has an inner and outer covering to make it waterproof, and the whole thing is supported on a structure of poles which reach up to the centre of the roof. They have raised wooden floors to keep out any damp from below and even in France most of them have some form of wood burner inside, though the need for it is questionable.
The big thing for most Yurties is the fact that they have proper beds, so you are camping in a sense, but in reality you are sleeping in a bed equally as luxurious as the one you have at home, or more so in many cases!
Oh yes, they have leccy too, so you have light and power for the fridge freezer which is provided. All this comes with a cooker (most are inside) and cooking utensils. And if this isn't luxury camping then I don't know what is!
