A little about Raguénès-Plage in south West Brittany and the availability of camping resources in the region
You may well have heard of this little place and equally, you may not have a clue whereabouts it is, which is no disgrace at all because it is a hidden away village a few KM south east of Concarneau and slap bang on the south western coast of good old Brittany where so many British families take their camping holidays every year.
Raguénès-Plage is a good old trek from most of the main ferry ports apart from Roscoff and St Malo, as it is situated just a tad south of Concarneau and near to the south western end of Brittany. Probably the best ferries for this area other than Roscoff are St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg. Getting there is absolutely no problem because the French roads are excellent, relatively traffic free on the dual carriageways, and above all they are well sign posted. We show a link to a map of the area for you to get your bearings.
From Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg head for Avranches then St Malo, heading down the N137. You will soon pick up signs for Vannes in Brittany, so follow that sign and avoid Rennes entirely. Further on you will eventually pick up signs for Quimperle and then Concarneau. Don't go to Concarneau, but head for Quimperle and then Pont-Aven which is on the river Aven would you believe? From Pont-Aven take the D77 road to Raguénès-Plage. You should have local directions from there to your camping site supplied by your tour operator.
Wherever your camping site is based here it simply cannot be far from the seaside where there is a stunningly beautiful beach, a curving bay of glorious sand edged with dramatic rock formations and lots of rock pools as the tide goes out. Nice one, and especially for families or anyone who likes rockpooling.
Nearby there is a small island, ingeniously named Ile Raguénès which could be worth exploring, as well as lots of little fishing ports which are still operating, so if you like mooching around olde worlde ports then this is a plus for you.
