Review of Camping Le Bois d'Amour, Quiberon, southern Brittany
The site is at the far end of the Quiberon peninsular, as most of them are, pretty well facing Belle île and just about 150m from the famous Goviro beach on the Cote Sauvage part of the Quiberon peninsular.
This is French owned and run and to be fair the spoken English there isn't too hot, so if you aren't a French speaker you have to make do with Franglais. Having said that, the reception staff are wonderfully welcoming and will go out of their way to be helpful.
I can see that the language problem could affect a good many Brits taking holidays there if they knew about the linguistic shortcomings of the staff before booking, but it really isn't a problem, and if you are to take a holiday on Quiberon at all then we can recommend this site having stayed there.
We stayed in a mobile home owned by Homair, a French company who are just beginning to make inroads into the UK camping holiday market, and like all other French owned holiday companies there are some differences between the way they and British owned companies perceive camping holidays to be, and what they provide etc. You can read all about those differences here at Vive la Différence
One thing you should be aware of if you intend to book a holiday on Quiberon is that there is a small aerodrome very near to le Point du Conguel which affects more or less all the camping sites in that vicinity. Quite frankly it is a noise nuisance, pure and simple, and none of the paper or online brochures I have read about sites on the peninsular have mentioned it.
Le Bois d'Amour is a spacious site and the pitches are generous too. Obviously, being a French site, it is spotless and the grounds are well tended. There is the usual shop, swimming pool, take away, and the lady there will cook you more or less anything to order.
One thing which impressed us no end on the first morning there was that I was presented with a cloth bag with the baker's name etc on for my baguettes - a very nice touch we thought.
To my mind there are no bad points to report about this site, and unlike our stay at Camping du Conguel round the corner we didn't experience any evening noise from groups of drunken teenagers.
Having said all that, all the good points of the campsite, the beautiful rock strewn beaches and Quiberon town itself, a week here is a long time, and as I mentioned in the Camping du Conguel review, there are only so many times you can walk the limited walks here, only so many times you can wander through the streets of Quiberon before you are terminally bored and wishing your life away.
A shame really because some of the campsites here are superb.
