A little about Cap Ferret and the local area, camping facilities and resources, and what you can expect to find in the Gironde region of Aquitaine, south west France.

Cap Ferret is on the very same bit of coastline as is Soulac and, far nearer, Arcachon. Indeed, Cap Ferret is situated right next to Arcachon on the outermost part of the Arcachon Bay, or Bassin d'Arcachon as it is locally known, and is just a few km below the well known resort of Lacanau Ocean.

Getting there is easy peasy - depending on which ferry port you have used - and if you are approaching Bordeaux from the north as most Brits do then you will invariably encounter the Bordeaux Peripherique, or ring road. Once on that you need to know that you are going Ouest (west), and you must follow signs for Bayonne and/or Biarritz. Leave the peripherique at junction 13 onto the N250 and follow your nose to Arcachon and Cap Ferret. Seemples!

To be perfectly honest there is little we can tell you about the area which we have not explained on our page for camping in Arcachon because these two resorts are so closely located, but the whole region is a delight and a haven for camping and mobile home holidays, nature and bird watching in the nearby forests, and for walking the forest trails.

And then we have the watersports which abound on the western coast of France, especially in Aquitaine right down to the border with Spain. There is over 100km of coastline from south of Arcachon and round the Bassin to Cap Ferret in the north with beaches for everyone from toddlers to championship surfers. There are facilities for every water-sport imaginable in this area and the rollers in this part of the world have to be seen to be believed.

Our belief is that camping holidays are superb in this unspoilt area are as good as it gets.
