Information about camping holiday facilities in and around Concarneau, Finisterre, western Brittany

Concarneau is situated just across the Baie de la Foret and exactly opposite another favourite camping venue for British holidaymakers, Beg-Meil. Concarneau is far larger than Beg-Meil but is hardly a metropolis at that, rather more a nice sized small town which is busy in summer with visitors but which tends to be rather sleepy out of season. As Concarneau and Beg-Meil are so close the directoins for getting there are virtually the same and you can read them on the Beg-Meil page

Concarneau is one of the main towns in the area and has roughly 19,000 inhabitants so this is one tourist area which doesn't "close down" out of season as it has well-equipped commercial and sporting facilities all year round. Concarneau has several safe and sandy beaches in a sheltered bay, and in the heart of the town, the fishing port is very lively, especially in the morning because the unloading of the fish from the trawlers starts at 11 p.m. and auctioning takes places from 6.30 a.m. the next day, Mon to Fri inc.

The town boasts two bustling out door markets on Mondays and Fridays from 8 am to 1pm which are well worth a browse around as all markets in France are.

Facilities for camping holidays are all around the town and camping sites cater for take your own equipment camping, pre-erected tent camping and the more luxurious mobile homes which have showers and toilets.

We have linked to another site which provides a very basic map of the area round Concarneau, but more importantly lists quite a few other nearby towns and their distance away in miles.

We think that this town is well worth looking into for a camping holiday - why? Well lots of French people go there and if you follow the locals who know what they're doing in their own country then you can't go far wrong.
