Camping holiday information on the Cote d'Azur, or French Riviera, Southern France

Think of the Cote d'Azur, or the French Riviera as some call it, and most people think,"Money, money, money" and to a certain extent that's true. The place is jam packed full of the rich, famous and celebrities, but it is also a holiday destination which suits pockets which are not quite so deep. Indeed, there are masses of camping sites and camping parks for both tent camping and mobile home holidays all over the Cote d'Azur. Very approximately the Cote d'Azur is the coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea starting from Hyeres and extending eastwards to the Italian border as our link to a map of the region shows.

Well known, indeed famous names all help comprise the French Riviera, the Cote d'Azur; St Tropez, St Maxime, St Raphael, Agay, Frejus, Cannes, Nice and Menton etc. The editor (that's me) is old enough to have known some of these now famous towns like Agay and St Raphael when they were virtually villages with the odd camping site and a bar or two. Decent shops in those days were to be found in Cannes or Nice, and even all those years ago they were tres cher!

But now all of the Cote d'Azur is chic and trendy, and has been that way for many years. Property prices as we know them in the UK in this area are through the roof, but thankfully that doesn't apply to the holiday situation there, and especially the camping holidays sector which costs no more to stay in than anywhere else in France.

Getting to the Cote d'Azur is much the same as for Languedoc and Provence, indeed, most if not all of this region is actually in Provence, but briefly: The best ferry crossing is Dover/Calais from where you need to get onto the A26 autoroute and head for Reims. Follow signs for the cities like Dijon, Macon, Lyon and further south the same road takes you directly into St Raphael in the heart of the French Riviera. From there you should have the immediate directions to your camping site.
