So let’s start by giving everyone the choice between having a camping holiday in France somewhere nice – well most of it is really – and a mobile home holiday, again either in the UK or France. So what sort of person are you then?
Are you the rough and ready type who can sleep on a clothesline or park bench and rise next morning looking like a million dollars? Or do you need the security and privacy which a locked door provides, and the comfort of a bed near to your very own toilet? Can’t blame anyone for being the latter.
It’s just that some of us, and I was one such years ago, love to go tent camping. I’ve camped all over the planet and not always in the most hospitable circumstances either, but camping is a way of life for some of us and it is only in our later years when we succumb to the temptations of beds inside and showers which are not in shower blocks.
Many of us older ones, especially those who have been in the land forces, will have experienced making our own showers with a suspended tin full of tiny holes. Well they kept us reasonably clean and cooled us off a tiny bit as well. Not everyone’s cup of tea I admit but you get used to things like that and to just lie back on a bed in a mobile home would be just that bit “too easy”.
But mobile homes have their fans too, and the ladies in my family have never taken to the outdoor life with the same love of being close to nature with which I grew up – in fact they don’t do tent camping at all, even though my wife tried it for a couple of weeks some years ago, and it was only when I was looking in the garage for the tent to see if it was ok for another season that I realized it was “missing”. Missing, stolen, sent to the tip or whatever, but my wife told me in later years she had disposed of it because it was what she described as “a dust trap”.
So there you go, some of us like a mobile home holiday and others take to their tents, but there’s no brownie points for guessing who has the most money left at the end of their holidays!
