, the guide to camping and mobile home holidays in France. We provide a consumer travel guide for the major camping areas to enable you to make an informed decision as to whether to take camping holidays there, and if so, the region and even the town or village best suited to your holiday needs. All our info is free but we do not sell holidays, so please do not contact us for that.
In this site we concentrate on the areas where camping is predominantly the main type of holiday; Normandy, Brittany, The Vendee, Charente Maritime, South West France and the South of France including the French Riviera, Cote d'Azur, the Ardeche etc.
Camping holidays in France are possibly the most enjoyable holidays imaginable. The weather, the food and the overwhelming sense of freedom combine to make France the number 1 camping venue in Europe. We believe that a camping holiday in France represents far better value for money than the equivalent one in the UK.
We fully understand that because of the global financial situation taking a holiday of any sort in the Eurozone can be expensive, but we still maintain that camping holidays, especially in France, are better value for money than the equivalent holiday taken in Rip Off UK. Take a good look at our holiday savings page and see what you think, because even in the recession camping in France can still be a bargain holiday compared to the same in the UK, if you plan things right from the ourset.
Just a quickie - why do the French people mainly holiday in France? Because they simply don't need to travel out of their own country to find the climate, beach area, walking area what have you which makes for good holidays; it's all there for them in France....lucky, lucky. Lots of them take camping holidays in their own country and weekend camping breaks as well.
The first thing we have to do is to define the word camping. Really it means any type of shelter for holiday purposes which "gets you away from it all", so as well as tents, Yurts and Tipis this includes caravans, static caravans and most importantly mobile homes which are virtually the same animals as statics. The word camping encompasses them all.
We have a section which includes camping tips, camping etiquette, holiday savings (how to make valuable savings on the total cost of your holiday), a page about driving laws and plenty of links to and from our sister site which deals with camping and mobile home holidays in France and other places as well. Wherever possible we have added links to maps of the different areas with notes about beaches and/or any points of interest. We have a small self drive holidays section; small because we are just concentrating on France as opposed to Italy, Spain etc. We have added in as many of the actual towns and villages as possible near to where camping sites abound, and if maps of the town are available then we have linked to them.
When we compare the £ Pound and the Euro and see there's little difference between the two then it does make one think about holidaying at home for once, but look at the difference in the holiday prices - and what you get for it - and you could come round to thinking that camping in France for a couple of weeks is not such an expensive option after all.
To make the point; We were sent a mini brochure (April 2009) by a medium sized tour operator whose speciality is camping and mobile homes holidays on the western coast of France. Two weeks (last week of June/1st week July) for three adults including the return ferry fares came to £530 for a nice mobile home. Around the same time we also received a couple of brochures from similar companies operating in Devon - no ferry fares remember - and both of these were approximately the same, coming out at £670 for 1 week for the same period and the same three adults. Good old Rip Off Britain strikes again!
