A little information about Soulac sur Mer, how to get there and the camping holidays resources available when you do.

Soulac is in the Gironde region of Aquitaine, south west France, and it faces the Atlantic coast on the opposite side of the mightly Gironde river to Royan, and this must rate as one of the most "get away from it all" camping holiday destinations in the whole of France, because to get there (by car) you have to either take the ferry across the Gironde from Royan to le Verdon-sur-Mer and drive about 10 KM to Soulac or....wait for it.... drive down from your ferry port to Bordeaux and right up to Soulac that way. Sheesh! that takes you right out of your way. So from Bordeaux you need to exit the peripherique or ring road at junction 7 and head up the D215 then D1 towards Lesparre Medoc and le Verdon. The fishing should be good anyway!

If you were to look at a map of the area to the south of Soulac you will notice that this is a very sparsely inhabited area with only small villages, lakes, forests and sand dunes which all have an abundance of wildlife.

As well as being an established camping resort the seas around Soulac are suberb for all manner of watersports and the rollers are precisely what you would expect from south west France - long and big!

When you have become bored with lounging on the beach (does that actually happen?) there is plenty to do and for starters you could take the ferry across the Gironde and have a day in the city of Royan, do some shopping, have a glaqss or two of your favourite tipple and generally act out the tourist character.

Or try bird watching as this is a haven for twitchers. Take some walks into the woods/forests which are so numerous that you simply cannot miss them. At any time of year you are pretty well bound to spot red squirrels in the woods, that is if they are not already in your camp site - and if you have pine trees then nearby there will be squirrels - there are no grey squirrels in France by the way.

South of Soulac there are a couple of lakes - Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans and Lac de Lacanau which of course is just inland from the other well known nearby camping area of Lacanau Ocean. Why not try a spot6 of sailing or fishing for a change?

You will find that the region in and around Soulac sur Mer will draw you back year after year.
