Camping near St Cast-le-Guildo, Northern Brittany

The St Cast area is a favourite for camping holidays with a great many groups. It is also a favourite with many who wish to look at the WW2 beaches where the Allies landed and families alike.

At St Cast you are not too far away from Le Mont St Michel, the building of which was started around 708 AD. There is parking there but you need to be warned that Le Mont is (a) one of the most visited places in France, so it will be busy even on a 'quiet' day, and (b) the parking and entrance fees can be quite pricey.

St Malo is a great place to visit for the day and is a hugely popular tourist destination as well as ferry port. Parking may be seen to be difficult but it isn't really so long as you go to a proper car park and there is one just outside the city walls near to the ferry port.

Have a walk round the city walls and look down at the people (on both sides), or why not take a ride round the city on the little train? There's a running commentary in French and English and all the places of interest are pointed out and explained to you. You can get off and on at will until you eventually get back to the place where you embarked.

The city is full of character with masses of old streets with plenty of tourist shops and restaurants. With travelling time to and from St Malo you will find that your time there goes in a jiffy as there is so much to see and do.

As it is only a few km from St Malo, this is of course the most logical port to arrive in, however drivers coming from the north eastern French ferry ports like Calais, Dieppe, Le Havre, Caen and Cherbourg should just drive west and follow the next major town or city along the way. From all of those places follow signs for Caen and then St Malo; St Cast is signposted so that you do not actually have to go into St Malo.
