St Cast-le-Guildo is situated right at the top or most northerly bit of Brittany, western France
Well, we normally start these pages off with getting to the resort we are talking about, but in this case it is only a handful of KM from St Malo, if you were lucky enough to be able to use that ferry route.
Drivers coming from the north eastern French ports like Calais, Dieppe, Le Havre, Caen and Cherbourg should just drive west and follow the next major town or city along the way. From all of those places follow signs for Caen and then St Malo; St Cast is signposted so that you do not actually have to go into St Malo.
The St Cast area is a favourite for camping holidays with a great many groups. Schools love it because there is some history in the region, it isn't too hot for their charges and it is relatively near to home whilst still being "abroad". It is also a favourite with many who wish to look at the WW2 beaches where the Allies landed. It is a favourite with parents who have young children and also with families of all ages.
At St Cast you are not too far away from Le Mont St Michel, the building of which was started around 708 AD. There is parking there but you need to be warned that Le Mont is (a) one of the most visited places in France, so it will be busy even on a bad day, and (b) the parking and entrance fees are pretty steep, so you have been warned.
There is no shortage of camping accommodation in the St Cast area and it is a busy little place in high season as is much of France for that matter. You will find that there is always a pitch if you take your own camping equipment, or you can hire pre-erected tents which come fully kitted out with all the necessities of camping life from some of the larger companies, and of course there are the mobile homes which are generally the most preferred these days as they offer a degree or so more comfort whilst in most cases they don't cost much if any more than a pre-erected tent.
If you are mobile then you could possibly tear yourself away from the beach one day and make a visit to a few places nearby. St Malo springs to mind as a good place to visit for a day. Parking may seen to be difficult but it isn't really so long as you go to a proper car park and there is one just outside the city walls near to the ferry port. We have used it and it is far cheaper than parking in the UK, and safe too.
Have a walk round the city walls and look down at the peasants (on both sides), or why not take a ride round the city on the little train? That gives a running commentary in French and English and all the places of interest are pointed out and explained to you. You can get off and on at will until you eventually get back to the place where you embarked.
The city is full of character with masses of old streets with plenty of tourist shops and restaurants. With travelling time to and from St Malo you will find that your time there goes in a jiffy as there is so much to see and do.
Whatever, we are certain that you will enjoy your camping holiday in St Cast.
