Why not try a spot of Yurt camping, or Glamping (glamorous camping) in the Hautes Pyrenees, south of France

Well here's the tale of a couple who saw the light and got their priorities right! We know that you'll want to get in touch so their contact details and rates are at the bottom of the page.

Rebecca and Piers Watson moved to Hautes Pyrenees 5 years ago and have been restoring their old ruined farmhouse.  They lived in the yurt with their two young children for the first 4 years until the restoration project became habitable.  Now they are living in the house, they have turned the yurt and its own eco-friendly bathroom into a unique and beautiful holiday rental property.

The yurt is situated on the boundary of a 5 acre site in the small village of Larroque Magnoac, 3km from Castelnau Magnoac, 24km north of Lannemezan, 44km south of Auch.  Nestling between an historic mound and an oak forest, the yurt benefits from a sheltered location, which ensures tranquility and seclusion, where guests may relax listening to the sounds of nature.

The views of the Pyrenees from the mound are beautiful, with the impression of peaks stretching from coast to coast.

The yurt is 7m diameter, with the hand-made sweet chestnut framed dome providing a wonderful feeling of spaciousness. The oak and willow occuli in the centre of the dome lets in plenty of natural light. The living space is furnished simply and comfortably, with double bed, table and chairs, cupboards and drawers.

The yurt is eco-friendly, with a solar panel providing solar powered lighting. Mains electricity is also available with power point for appliances.  The yurt's well-equipped kitchenette is located in the timber framed entrance, with kitchen sink, fridge, 4 ring gas hob and microwave.  The yurt has it's own private decked area, with patio table and chairs and BBQ fire pit.

A moment's walk up the mound you will find a picnic table and chairs from which to enjoy the mountain views.  The timber-framed private bathroom is hidden away behind the yurt, surrounded by oak trees, with hot water heater for the shower and sink. Hairdryer provided. The bathroom has an eco-friendly, composting dry toilet. Waste water is filtered through reed beds.

Home-cooked meals made with the freshest local produce can be ordered from the owners for dining in the yurt.
Fresh eggs and organic vegetables fresh from our garden are available to purchase.

Laundry service available.

Towels and bed linen are provided.

Cots and high chair / bottle warmer may be provided for babies / toddlers, as the yurt can, if necessary, sleep 2 adults and 2 babies / children.

The cost of staying in the yurt is £250 (UK stirling) per week flat rate all year round. Changeover day is Saturday.  High season, i.e. July and August, we only take full week bookings, but the rest of the year we can accommodate on a nightly or weekend basis at 40 pounds per night.
