The Limousin is a beautiful, rural part of France, ideal for enjoying all the outdoors has to offer, and what better way to spend a holiday there than in a yurt. Sleeping under those starry skies, but with the comfort a 'real' bed, is bliss. Children adore the 'cabin' feel to yurts, it's like having a holiday in your own 'den'.
Limousin Farm Holidays, offers yurts and tipis well spaced, in a lovely site. It is a real working farm of 240 acres with Limousin cows and sheep, as well as free range chickens, a few pigs, horses, rabbits and even boasts a 'guard llama' (he guards the lambs not the guests).
This site has a shared farmhouse, where you can cook in a normal kitchen, escape the sun, and where you will find the individual, private shower rooms, yes this site has private shower rooms, one for each tipi or yurt. This means you can leave your toiletries there and never have to queue. Breakfast is included in your stay, as well as all bedding and towels, and all firewood and kindling; they do not charge for 'baby extras' such as cots and high chairs. They have 6 children, so their 'family friendly' claim is genuine.
The farm shop on site is well stocked with fruit, vegetables, jams, pickles and home baking. Home reared meat is available and prepared to order, so you can choose how thick you want your steaks, or what marinade to put on your kebabs.
Twice a week evening meals are served with the host family and entire campsite eating together. The outside pizza oven is lit, and is quite a spectacle as the kids make their own pizzas. The pizza oven is then cleverly used to russle up some tandoori chicken or lamb kebabs, for those adults less fond of pizza!
There is lots to explore in the area, from walking, cycling (bike hire on site), and canoeing to tree climbing advnture centres. However you may decide that, as the kids have disappeared into the wood with a gang of new friends, that the best thing to do is open another bottle of wine and tend the campfire. Price; 350-450€ per week.
